Carrying the Ocean
Jacob Alexandré
Rain carries the ocean
inland, to parched places
far away. It may gently drop
the sea
on your head
without
breaking a hair.
It’s as if to whisper
a suggestion, or knock
at some porch on your heart.
It announces, “Here you are,
and here is the water too.”
This may make you bear water yourself.
Because it’s beautiful to be on the beach,
and walk along shores
you remember.
