Driveway Drinking

Madison Legg

I like Driveway Drinking after a long day

My dad is always set on doing it

He’ll sit in the driver’s side

I’m the passenger and DJ

The AC always gets too cold but

Rule 1 of Driveway Drinking never roll the windows down

Because your neighbors hate you

And there’s no evidence that blasting Daughtry is going to help

Rule 2 is the most simple of the rules

Don’t go outside until it’s time to go inside

For this rule we have a cooler in the back of the car

It fits snug right where my dad can reach it

Rule 3 and see this one’s important

No politics

Neither of you agree with each other

So why bring it up

My dad has some of the worst taste in music

So Rule 4 is a secret rule

Try to queue as many songs as possible before he plays something

If the neighbors don’t like Daughtry they definitely don’t want Blue Oyster Cult

The last rule is for myself

No number

It’s constantly playing in the back of my mind

Try not to count how many drinks your dad has had today

Try not to put too much thought into the fact that the cooler always seems to be in the car

Try not to be mad when he breaks Rule 2 to grab more drinks

Try not to think about the fact that this is the most one on one time you have with him

Try not think about what you would say at the funeral when he drowns himself in the beer

Because if the neighbors don’t like Daughtry

I’m sure your grandmother doesn’t want to hear about how you parked the car

Right outside your own home

And would drink with your father until he decided he couldn’t drink anymore
