Marr’s Field Journal is no longer accepting submissions for our 2025-2026 publication. We accept submissions from all undergraduate students at the University of Alabama in the following genres: poetry, prose/fiction, creative nonfiction, drama, drawing, illustration, digital art, collage, painting, photography, graphic design, ceramic/sculpture, spoken word, original music, original film, and/or original choreography.

Deadlines

MFJ is no longer accepting submissions for its 2025-2026 publication. The deadline to submit was November 30, 2025.

Response Time

You will receive an automatic confirmation from Marr’s Field Journal after you have submitted your piece. The staff will email you with a response by late March.

Guidelines

Please do not submit PDFs.

We accept multiple submissions. However, we request that you do not submit more than ten submissions. If you submit more than the allotted number, only your first ten submissions will be reviewed.

If you submit multiple pieces, each piece must be submitted separately.

Any piece submitted to Marr’s Field Journal is expected to be the creator’s original work. Any submissions that fail to meet this standard will not be published.

Writing

Upload a separate document for each submitted writing piece.
Use the title of the piece as the file name.
Submit documents in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.
Text should be single-spaced and set in 12-point font.
Refrain from placing the writer’s name on the submitted piece.
Include the title in the submitted document.

Visual and Audio Material

Use the title of the piece as the file name.
For visual art submissions, please include materials used, a title, and a clear photo.
For music submissions, please attach a lyric sheet for each piece (if applicable).
Please do not submit fan art. Art that is inspired by other art is more than welcome, but MFJ does not review fan art.

We prefer not to have simultaneous submissions with other Tuscaloosa art and literary publications.
